Please read the instructions carefully. I have attached documents, please read them carefully. The following article has to be read for the essay.Read the following article:Beethoven Was an Above Average Composer - Let's Leave It at That - Philip EwellIn the attached article, Philip Ewell writes:"…the race of music theory’s white racial frame, which works in concert with patriarchal structures to advantage whiteness and maleness while disadvantaging POC and non-males.""To state that Beethoven was any more than, say, above average as a composer is to state that you know all music written on planet earth 200 years ago when Beethoven was active as a composer, which no one does."These passages raise some interesting questions, and possibly emotional responses. Many will reply to the first sentence with something like, "music or music theory has nothing to do with race or gender." Do you agree? Do you think Beethoven was thinking about race and gender when he was composing or performing? If he wasn't, is that because he found himself in a position of privilege being a white man that was commissioned by many aristocratic, wealthy patrons? The second statement really raises some emotions for some! Why do you think we still know the music of Beethoven or Mozart? Is it solely based on their whiteness and maleness? How can we say Mozart or Beethoven were unique geniuses of their time if we have only studied a mere fraction of the music of their generation? Furthermore, we have only studied music of their eras from Europe. What about composers of the 1700 and 1800s living in Africa or Asia? For instance, one may say such-and-such band or artist is the best Chicago artist of 2021. However, wouldn't that statement need to be supported by being immersed or familiar with all or at least most other artists in the Chicago music scene? Is it the responsibility of music critics and historians to provide us with all of the information of a historical period, or just what they deem as being "genius"?In your essay, respond to these statements and questions, as well as drawing your own arguments on the subject. Be sure to provide historical references, dates, names that support your arguments - the information could be pulled from our textbook. Should be double spaced using Arial or Times New Roman Font. Format your eassay based on the attached "Basic Essay Format" pdf:Introduction - with thesis statementParagraph1: Main Idea (topic senetence, supoporting ideas, concluding sentence)Paragraph2: Main Idea (topic senetence, supoporting ideas, concluding sentence)Paragraph3: Main Idea (topic senetence, supoporting ideas, concluding sentence)Conclusion
