Individual Learning Project

I need to conduct one individual project analyzing a children’s book. I will need to apply child development principles to everyday life within community and integrating multiple psychological concepts. Describe how your story concepts/narratives and ideas illustrate the theories we have learned in class. I must get at least two peer reviewed articles to link with and extend beyond class/text material . PROJECT GOALS: I found a children's STORYBOOK, and analyzed positive child development aspects of it from a child psychology perspective. Discuss how the narrative of the book, or elements of the book help strengthen children’s development (in social, cognitive or emotional). Why do you think children in your community reach this book? (e.g., increases acts of altruism, reduces aggression and discrimination, etc.) Make sure to look at a few children's stories in order to get an idea of which book you want to analyze. The project will be submitted in 3 parts: Part 1-Proposal: • 1 paragraph proposal describing your potential book selection and choice of theory(ies) to be used and potential target population (must be children or parents) and why. Part 2: Draft 3 page paper: a draft 3-page paper on topic. Part 3: FINAL PRODUCT (4 to 5 pages final paper). Write a paper explaining (1) whether any of the acts committed in the story might be emulated by the readers of your community, (2) which events would have the created impact on the readers, given past research/theory, and (3) describe how your story concepts/narratives and ideas illustrate the theories and what we have learned in class. Make appropriate references to the textbook and articles you have read. Please note that you must be able to scan a copy of the book you are using so I can review it during the grading process. Content: • Identified the why this children’s book is important for that population • Identified the appropriate child development principles. e.g. Effective and meaningful application of at least 4-6 concepts/terms covered in class readings or podcast. • Link with and extend beyond class/text material are appropriate with “product”MUST HAVE 2-3 PEER REVIEWED REFERENCES. • Insights, comments, and interpretations Clarity & Organization (20 points) • Overall organization and structure of your project • Clarity of explanations (use of examples, clear descriptions) • Clear flow of information • Spelling/Punctuation. References to be used: find 2-3 peer reviewed references. In addition to 2-3 peer reviewed references use 2 books reference below (I attached pages in additional materials below) 1) Harwood, R. Miller, S. A., R. (2008). Child Psychology: Development in a Changing Society. John Wiley & Sons Inc. ISBN: 978-0471706496 2) Shenk, D. (2010). The Genius in All of Us. New York: Doubleday/Random House. Part 1 - Proposal 1 page was already written and the book was selected ( see additional material-sources to be used). Book: Snicket, Lemony. The Bad Mood and the Stick. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2017. The professor approved the proposal, however, she commented and recommended some corrections. I will attach the notes of the professor. Please, review the notes and make necessary corrections, expand ideas as needed and please complete Part 2 of the project. Part 2: Draft 3 page paper: using my one page proposal attached in additional material, extend my one page proposal and write a draft 3-page paper on my book topic. For the draft, I need 3 pages. This is a chance for the professor to review my draft paper before submission to make sure I am following along correctly with the assignment and she provides feedback. Please follow the Rubric and make sure to use 2-3 peer reviewed references( review proposal and add or change references to make sure 2-3 peer reviewed references included). Not including something that is required will result in loss of points for that section. Application of at least 4-6 concepts/terms covered in class readings or podcast are required.
Professor's notes :
"This is a good start, and for the final paper you need to add more to your final paragraphs. Essentially do more of it.
You should look into Piaget, if you want to use him you need to talk more about the principles (same with all the others). If the child is 5-8 what stage are they in Piaget's stages, and how does this book help?
Other principles in his theory:
Assimilation/Accommodation
Disequilibrium, Schema etc.
Then you make this statement- classical conditioning and operant conditioning with an example, but you don't tell me what theory it belongs to or what principle. As both are two different theories with different principles. The example in the book, what aspects of the theory does it specifically relate to?
Last make sure to cite when taking about a statement /fact from a theory.
The story integrates some aspects of behavioraltheori
(Starmans, 2017). The girl in the story becomes grumpy because they passed-by an ice-cream shop with her mother, but she does not buy her some ice-cream."
Make sure to follow Professor's recomendations above and make necessary corrections.

Link with and extend beyond class/text material; product is appropriate with group/context: _________15

Two or more peer review studies (beyond our class/text material) are discussed. These include research studies and/or additional empirical evidence that support your arguments and why the narrative and/or elements of the book work for your targeted group.
