Discussion: Ethical and Legal Foundations of PMHNP Care
Advanced practice nursing in all specialties is guided by codes of ethics that put the care, rights, duty, health, and safety of the patient first and foremost. PMHNP practice is also guided by ethical codes specifically for psychiatry. These ethical codes are frameworks to guide clinical decision making; they are generally not prescriptive. They also represent the aspirational ideals for the profession. Laws, on the other hand, dictate the requirements that must be followed. In this way, legal codes may be thought to represent the minimum standards of care, and ethics represent the highest goals for care.

For this Discussion, you select a topic that has both legal and ethical implications for PMHNP practice and then perform a literature review on the topic. Your goal will be to identify the most salient legal and ethical facets of the issue for PMHNP practice, and also how these facets differ in the care of adult patients versus children. Keep in mind as you research your issue, that laws differ by state and your clinical practice will be dictated by the laws that govern your state.
To Prepare
- Select one of the following ethical/legal topics:- Autonomy
- Beneficence
- Justice
- Fidelity
- Veracity
- Involuntary hospitalization and due process of civil commitment
- Informed assent/consent and capacity
- Duty to warn
- Restraints
- HIPPA
- Child and elder abuse reporting
- Tort law
- Negligence/malpractice
- In the Walden library, locate a total of four scholarly, professional, or legal resources related to this topic. One should address ethical considerations related to this topic for adults, one should be on ethical considerations related to this topic for children/adolescents, one should be on legal considerations related to this topic for adults, and one should be on legal considerations related to this topic for children/adolescents.

The purpose of this final reflection is to: (1) offer you an opportunity to reflect on how your understanding of human development has grown and changed over the course of the semester, and (2) assess your attainment of the course objectives. As a reminder, these objectives are:
a. Demonstrate an understanding of central research questions, theories, and methodologies used in the study of human development.
b. Demonstrate an understanding of the main areas of development, emphasizing physical, cognitive, and social development and changes within these across the life span.
c. Develop skills to evaluate critically how development is influenced by contextual factors including social class, ethnicity, and family processes.
d. Develop the ability to identify, analyze, and synthesize developmental psychological concepts and apply them to explain everyday events.
In order to do this, please address the following questions in a comprehensive paper (i.e., it should be an essay, not bullet-points). For full credit, make sure to: (1) be detailed and thorough in your reflection, providing specific examples from your life or the world around you, and (2) define and describe relevant concepts from the course. For full credit, make sure to connect to at least TWO concepts covered in this class over the course of the semester. You should define/describe the concepts and then explain how the concepts connect to your everyday life. For example, if you say "I can see myself using a lot of this information in the future," make sure to elaborate. Specifically WHAT might you use and HOW do you see yourself using it?
Papers usually end up being approximately four-to-five pages in order to adequately address the prompts. Please include in-text citations and a references page at the end including ANY resources that you cite throughout (e.g., your textbook, websites, YouTube videos, etc.). See the APA resources module for more information and examples.
1. Thinking back to the beginning of the semester, how has your understanding of human development grown or changed as a result of this course? Give at least two specific examples.
2. How does this course relate to or how has this course influenced your day-to-day life? Give at least two specific examples. Consider questions such as (but not limited to):
- What are some phenomena you see in everyday life that you now understand differently / better than you did before?
- How have your understandings of or interactions with the others changed as a result of this course?
- How has this course changed how you view or understand yourself?
- Have you changed any behaviors as a result of this course?
3. How will you use what you learned in this class in your future (this can be professionally and/or personally)? Give at least two specific examples.
4. Anything else you would like to share related to human development / this class? What is Personality? - Personality Psychology - YouTube
Freud’s 5 Stages of Psychosexual Development - YouTubeHere are the 2 links for references videos. Follow instructions above.
Answer each question for the prompt.Thanks.

There is a book called my freshman year: what a professor learned about being a student. I have quotes about the book that we need to relate to my interview themes and questions. You should be using any relevant pieces of My Freshman Year in the literature review. What findings of hers are related to your project? How do her methods inform what you and your group members did? What did she find about the American University and how does it compare to what you and your groupmates found?
For Daniel E. LIT REVIEW→ My Freshman Year one possible connection
Chapter 5: Academically Speaking
- This chapter talks about how students don’t really talk about school/school topics with their friends. Could be related to how in our findings, when students go to the library with a group of friends they are more likely to get distracted/off topic. Many of our transcripts said that. Versus students that went with class members it was more focused because they’re not usually personal friends (more on topic)
“I learned that, although there was occasional talk about academics, it accounted for less than 5 percent of the total subjects I heard discussed. ” (page 290 in my book)
“Virtually none of the talk, aside from out-of-class meetings for a group project or joint homework session, concerned either the substantive content of a class or any other topic that might be labeled academic or intellectual.” (page 291 in my book)

Week 2 - Answer Question 1 (p.61) and Question 2 (p. 104)
1. (pg. 61) Describe at least three ways that factors in the external environment can influence employee behavior. If you were an HRD professional involved with an action team that was charged with evaluating the likely success of a proposed downsizing of your organization, what factors would you want to consider in making this recom- mendation? That is, based on what you know of HRD to this point, how can HRD professionals impact the likely success or failure of this action?
2. (pg.104) Explain the role that trainability plays in the effectiveness of an HRD program or intervention. Briefly describe the options available to assess the trainability of employees.
All discussion board assignments must include an original post in response to the discussion question and at least one post in response to another student's original post. All posts must be substantial, significant and thoughtful (not just "I agree"!) and you must include at least 2 (2) citations and appropriate references from relevant academically sound sources and only one reference of the two can be the text book. Citations and references must adhere to the latest APA format https://youtu.be/9pbUoNa5tyY. Academically appropriate sources are peer revieweRead journals, text books, conference proceedings, dissertations etc. They are NOT Forbes.com, Business Week, Wikipedia etc.

SIGNATURE ASSIGNMENT - Genetics Case Presentation Paper CLOs 1-6
Purpose: This signature assignment gives each student the opportunity to explore and create a case study for a chosen genetic disorder. Using a case study format, the assignment should: describe the clinical presentation, explore appropriate testing for genetics and work-up of clinical symptoms, analyze any subsequent co-morbidities, formulate patient and family education and counseling, and develop the course of treatment based on evidence-based guidelines and provide information local/regional genetic testing center. The first step in this assignment is to create a case study. If you have not had experience in creating a case study, here are a few helpful tips on what it is:
Case studies:
• are written summaries or syntheses of real-life cases based upon data and research
• require you to isolate and think through the key issues involved against both theory and the larger comparative environment
• identify appropriate strategies for the resolution of the 'case'
• weigh the pros and cons of the remedial options/strategies
• recommend and present a rationale for the best resolution
The genetics case study paper should be 8-10 pages in length (excluding title page, references, and appendices) per the APA Publication Manual (7 th ed.) and should include the following sections (*Hint: label each section heading and answer the questions within your scholarly paper.):
1. Introduction: Discuss the disorder
a. Epidemiology
b. Prevalence/Statistics
c. Genetics
d. Symptoms
e. Lab results
f. Genetic testing/diagnostic testing
g. Complications or potential complications
h. Treatment
i. Prognosis
2. Present your “patient” profile (Case Study through #5)
a. Patient history
b. Family history (at least 3 generations if all possible)
c. Social history (living situation, work/school status, habits such as smoking, alcohol intake, illicit drug use, diet)
d. Social support
e. Symptoms, duration of symptoms
f. Test/diagnostic results, genetic testing (if available)
g. Current state of health
h. Medication including vitamins and supplements
i. Draw a pedigree for a genetic disorder with appropriate symbols and notations using a family history
j. Given parental genotypes, identify the possible gametes and make Punnett squares to determine the genotypic and phenotypic ratios of predicted offspring.
k. Construct pedigrees and be able to distinguish patterns of inheritance seen in pedigrees such as the differences between autosomal and sex-linked and recessive and dominant patterns of inheritance
3. Present your patient’s and family’s knowledge about:
a. Diagnosis
b. Treatment
c. Diet and exercise
d. Exercise
e. Lifestyle modifications
f. Follow-up for possible complications and what to watch for g. Prognosis
4. Treatment Plan
a. For patient and family
5. Recommendations for Education
a. Need for family and patient education ((including level of health literacy)
6. Referrals and Additional Follow-up
*Minimal APA style and formatting includes:
1. Running head
2. Title page
3. Introduction (an abstract is not required)
4. Body of paper with appropriate levels of headings
5. Conclusion
6. Matching in-text citations to References list
